Alright guys – time for an update. Jesus did some pretty cool things these past couple of weeks. Read on to find out what’s been happening!

I just spent a week and a half in Gainesville, GA for training camp with my fellow squad mates and leaders. I showed up with my pack that has everything I’ll need for a year. Any expectations I had went out the window right away. The first couple of days, the rain fell endlessly. With mud everywhere, damp clothes, porta potties and bucket showers as the only option for a bathroom – I quickly had to let go of comfort.

I realized how much I’ve relied on routine and comfort in my daily life. Wearing the same clothes days in a row, taking freezing bucket showers in cold weather, and being away from other distractions allowed me to focus on what was right in front of me. Having less let me have more.

During training camp, I worshiped more freely than I have in years. I experienced community and fellowship. I let go of expectations and burdens. I realized what areas need growth. I found peace and joy again. I gained the sense of purpose that was lost these past couple of years. The Lord gave me all of this just for answering His call.

In this crazy year that is 2020 – I’m getting used to things not happening as expected. In this world during a pandemic, I think we all are learning how to lay down expectations and regular comforts. It’s a wonderful time to learn and grow. I pray that we have open and compassionate hearts in a time where so many people are hurting.

My squad just made it to Chicago this week! We will be here in Chicago for a month working with Park Community Church. We’re currently engaged in discipleship training and have already learned so much. If you feel led, here’s a few ways to pray for my squad this week:

  • that we will step outside comfort zones in order to follow what the Lord has for us
  • that we have boldness in telling others about Jesus
  • that we have opportunities to form and maintain relationships with those in our community

Here are some photos of the people I’m doing life with!!

  8. Katy I have to say that we miss you mucho, but I’m so glad you are experiencing such life-changing moments in your life. I know for you that this a dream come true and it’s so fun to watch you experience that. From your earliest days you have always been sensitive to people in need and found fulfillment in sharing the love of Christ to them. It was never enough to give a token response, but you always wanted to give of yourself. Now you are doing just that. I love you a lot. Give our best to your team. We will be praying for all of you.
