Hello all – I’ve talked a lot about how much this community means to me. So here’s a post describing each of my wonderful teammates! Our team is called Oaks of Righteousness, or ‘Oakies’ for short. We got this name from the Bible verse Isaiah 61:3. This verse states:

“to grant to those who mourn in Zion—

to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,

the oil of gladness instead of mourning,

    the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;

that they may be called oaks of righteousness,

the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.”

From this, our symbol has become a tree. We want to remain firm in the Lord while continuing to grow. There has already been so much growth and I can’t wait to see how else we grow from here.

Meet my team!

Hannah

  • Hannah, or ‘Zim’, is generous, witty, and thoughtful. She is originally from Colorado but now lives in Texas with her family. She loves watching movies, doing martial arts, and talking about Avatar: The Last Airbender. She gives more freely than anyone. She walks in wisdom and initiates encouraging conversations within the team.

Janice

  • Janice is from Delaware and is a soon-to-be aunt. She is encouraging, authentic, and passionate. She is a worshiper and a prayer warrior. She helps me practice my Spanish and lives life with such tenacity. I love seeing her be open and vulnerable because it encourages me to do the same.

KJ

  • Kristin June, or ‘KJ’, is unique, creative, and kind-hearted. She is from Michigan and is our alumni team leader for the first few months of our Race. She always has a creative idea and challenges us to grow in new ways. She is someone who listens, she is sensitive to the feelings of others, and she has been one heck of a leader for our team!

Lauren

  • Lauren is intentional, wise, and discerning. She is from Phoenix, Arizona. She came to my house the night before training camp, which makes her my first World Race friend. She loves asking challenging questions and walks in boldness. She will soon be our new wonderful team leader!

Paiton

  • Paiton is from Kentucky and she has a really cool accent. She is honest, protective, and strong. She makes really cool vlogs about what we’re doing on the World Race. She plays guitar and creates an atmosphere of worship for our squad. She fights for what she believes in and has the best southern sayings!

These are the ladies I’ve been doing life with the past few months. Everyone brings something special to the team. I’ve been so blessed to have these women in my life. We’re pursuing Jesus in community together and it’s been a really beautiful thing!

  4. Hey Katie,
I thought about you over Christmas and wondered how you were doing away from your family as you celebrated Christ’s birth.
Your papa seems to be doing well out there in Texas for which we can praise the Lord for as he stays with your aunt.
May you continue to be a blessing to those who come across your path and stay well.

  5. Dear Katy, I could not be more proud of you and your teammates. You truly are a special group. Each one of you brings such compassion for each other and for the people God has placed before you. Keep your focus on the Lord and you will continue to be a beautiful reflection of His image.
