Okay, so here is a big update on what has been happening the last month! Towards the end of our time in Colombia, my team got to do ATL ministry (which stands for Ask the Lord). During our time of ATL, my team felt the Lord calling us to Cartagena. Cartagena is a city on the coast by the Caribbean Sea. During our time in Cartagena, we connected with a local church and helped with their feeding program and street evangelism. We also fundraised in order to create care packages to pass out to people in need. We had an incredible time depending on the Lord for our time and finances.
After our time in Cartagena, we started our journey towards South Africa. We had a long five days of travel to make it to our destination! First, we had to take a 14 hour bus ride (overnight) back to Medellín to meet up with the rest of our squad. We arrived in Medellín the next morning and spent the day at a laundry mat, trying to have clean clothes coming into the next country. We spent a couple hours sleeping back at the Foundation and then left at two in the morning for the airport. Even though we showed up early, the check in process took forever and we all just squeezed onto our plane.
We flew to Panama City, Panama early in the morning and stayed in the airport for a couple of hours before flying to Newark, New Jersey. We spent an interesting couple of hours back in the States. It was the first time since going international that we were around a lot English-speakers and the normal comforts of home. Later that evening, we boarded our plane to Johannesburg, South Africa. Our flight was overnight and 15 hours, so we tried our best to sleep on the plane. We spent the night in a hotel and the next morning flew to George, SA. Finally, we took an hour and a half van ride from the airport to Heidelberg, our final destination.
My team is now in Heidelberg, South Africa. It is in the Western Cape and we are in the middle of winter! Everything is absolutely beautiful here, and we’ve seen and done some incredible things. My team will be here in Heidelberg for a couple of more weeks. The first three weeks in Heidelberg our whole squad was working at a school/church. The country was in a level 4 lockdown because of covid so we were doing a lot of painting, staining wood, organizing, and preparing for when the school came back to session. The past week and the next couple of weeks, my team has been able to work with the students (finally!).
I only have a little over one month left in my Race. Please pray that the Lord will continue to use my squad in this wonderful country. Though we are nearing the end of our Race, we are asking the Lord for strength to finish our Race well.
Hi Katy ! It was great to read your update. I am so excited to hear the details of your ministry stories when you get back. I am sooo excited to see you. You and your team are in my prayers. Mom
So thankful for all the Lord is allowing you to do in the schools. Praying you will be able to encourage the students to grow deeper and the teachers will be encouraged by your passion and love for Jesus. Praying for all of you to finish strong as you serve and prepare to come home.
Hi Katy! I’m really proud of you. I’ve heard how devoted you are to each and every ministry you’ve taken part in while on the WR.
I’m so happy you’re getting to spend more time with the children. I’ll bet it blesses you as much as it blesses them!
