So - why the World Race?
I gained an interest in the World Race several years ago and applied in 2016. I was accepted, got really excited, and then for some reason didn’t feel like it was the right ’timing’. I decided I would hold off and maybe do it the next year. It slowly slipped from the top of my priority list, eventually disappearing altogether.
So fast forward to 2020. As some of you might know, I started this year off preparing to teach English in China. I had my visa, all my bags packed, said all of my goodbyes, and was ready for an adventure. One week before getting on that long flight, I was told by my school to postpone my flight. The coronavirus situation was evolving, and it was looking less and less likely I would be let into the country. I was at a loss of what to do, extremely confused, and a little upset at God. I was so excited about this and devastated when it didn’t work out. At that point, I felt far from God. I knew I had to make a change in my life to get back on track with Him.
For the start of lent I decided to do something that has helped me hear from God in the past. I did a ‘mini’ Daniel Fast, praying everyday and trying really hard to listen. After a week, I was casually sitting in my room and something popped into my head: World Race. Something I hadn’t thought of in years. But something I knew I’d longed to do for so long. I immediately knew that God was speaking to me, calling me back into something that I’d denied for so long. I felt instant peace knowing God was leading me back to a future in missions.
For the 11 months of the World Race, I am excited to step outside what’s comfortable and trust that God will provide for me in many ways. I want to be challenged and pushed outside my comfort zone. I hope to learn from different ministries and new ways to reach people. I hope to live in a community of believers that work together to bring Christ to the nations. And I hope to have a support team here in the States that will keep me in their prayers as I answer God’s call.
Thanks for reading, more to come!
With Love,
Katy K.
